Choosing a Vehicle in Athens for Families, Big Groups and Lots of Luggage
A family with a stroller, a wedding party and a golf group with oversized bags all need different vehicles. Getting this wrong means a second car at the kerb or suitcases on laps. When you know what you need, you can book a private van or minibus in Athens from our homepage.
This guide helps you match your group to a vehicle. It covers head count, luggage, children and the questions to ask any company before you pay.
Start with two numbers
Write down how many people are travelling, babies included, and how many bags you have. Separate small bags from large suitcases, because the large ones decide the vehicle. Our booking form asks for exactly these: number of persons, small luggage and large luggage.
Add anything unusual to your list, such as a stroller, skis, golf clubs or instrument cases. Tell the company about these before the day.
The vehicles in our booking form
These are the services in the form. The last column is our general advice, so enter your party size and your bags in the form before you choose.
| Service | Usually suits |
|---|---|
| Private car | A couple or a small family with few bags |
| Taxi | A simple ride with light luggage |
| Limousine | Business travel, weddings and special days |
| Van | Larger families, or a small group with big bags |
| Minibus | Wedding parties, teams and tour groups |
| Bus | A large group moving together |
If you are unsure, or you have odd shaped items, contact us before you pay and ask which vehicle fits your party.

Families with children
A van often suits a family even when a car would seat everyone. You get space for the stroller and the bags, and you are not fitting a child seat around a pile of suitcases.
Child seats are the main thing to settle in advance. Ask about them when you book, and ask the company which rules apply to your child.
Before you book with any company, tell them each child’s age and weight, then ask three things. Is a seat included? Is it fitted before you get in? Does it suit your child’s size? If you want certainty, bring your own seat. One guest wrote in the reviews on our homepage that she feels very safe travelling with our drivers and her children.
Big groups
For a group, one vehicle is usually easier than several. Everyone arrives together, and nobody waits at the hotel for the second car. It also keeps one driver and one phone number as your contact.
Two smaller vehicles can still make sense. If half the group lands hours after the rest, or people stay in different hotels, one van for each part of the group may fit better than a minibus that waits.
For a group day out, you can also book a vehicle with a driver for a set route. Our guide to the best day trips from Athens compares the usual routes and how long each one takes.

Lots of luggage
Give the real number of large suitcases and not a rough guess, because the bags can decide the vehicle as much as the seats. If you arrive by ship, our guide to Piraeus port to Athens airport covers that trip.
For fares and queues at the rank, read our guide to the Athens airport taxi.
What to tell the company before you book
- Number of people, with the ages of any children.
- Number of small bags and large suitcases, plus any oversized items.
- Flight number or ship name.
- Pickup point and drop off address, including a hotel name.
- Any mobility needs, so the company can say what it can arrange.

Our short answer
Start with your party size and your bags in the booking form. As general advice, look at a car for a small party with light bags, and a van for a family or a small group with suitcases. Look at a minibus or bus when one vehicle would otherwise become two. If you are unsure, ask us before you pay.
