Athens Airport Taxi: Flat Fares, Queues and Pre-Booking
A taxi is the default choice for many visitors landing in Athens, and the fares are set by law. Knowing those fares, where the rank is and when the meter applies helps you avoid surprises after a long flight. This guide covers each point and explains when a car booked in advance is the better call. If you want a driver waiting with your name, our private airport transfer starts at arrivals and ends at your door.
Official taxi fares from Athens airport
| Route | 05:00 to 24:00 | 00:00 to 05:00 |
|---|---|---|
| Airport to the city center inner ring | €50 | €65 |
| City center inner ring to the airport | €50 | €65 |
| Any other destination | Meter: €1.80 flag fall, €0.90 or €1.25 per km, plus €4 airport charge | |

The flat fare includes every surcharge and extra. The time you arrive at your destination decides which fare applies, so a ride that leaves the airport at 23:40 and reaches Syntagma after midnight pays the night fare. The inner ring is the central traffic zone of Athens, and the airport publishes a map of it on the same page. Hotels in coastal suburbs or in the north of the city sit outside it, so the meter runs.
For a trip that runs on the meter, the official tariff has a €4 minimum fare and a waiting charge of €20 per hour when the car stands still during the trip. A hire from a port, a railway station or an intercity bus station adds €1.07 (Government Gazette).
Where to find the taxi rank
Taxis wait 24 hours a day at the rank at Exit 3 on the arrivals level. Greek rules say the rank works in order of arrival, for taxis and for passengers, with priority for blind, disabled and pregnant passengers (taxi drivers’ obligations, AIA). Several flights landing together can mean a queue in summer.
Drivers must give you a receipt for the fare. Keep it, together with the taxi’s plate number, in case you leave something in the car.
Uber at Athens airport
Uber in Athens works with licensed local taxi drivers. The pick-up point is the controlled zone opposite Exit 4 on the arrivals level. Uber fares follow the taximeter, apart from the same €50 and €65 flat fares between the airport and the city center (AIA). You get a taxi through the app, not a cheaper type of car.
Taxi or a pre-booked car

| Taxi from the rank | Pre-booked car | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Flat fare inside the inner ring, meter elsewhere | Fixed price shown in the booking form, for any address |
| Pickup | Queue at Exit 3 | Driver waits for you at arrivals |
| Vehicle | The next taxi in line | You choose a car, limousine, van, minibus or coach |
| Luggage | Whatever fits in the boot | You enter small and large bags when you book |
| Language | Depends on the driver | English-speaking chauffeur |
For two people with carry-on bags heading to a hotel inside the inner ring at midday, the €50 flat fare is a fair deal. A pre-booked car suits travellers who land at night, families who need a bigger vehicle, groups who want to ride together, and anyone staying outside the inner ring who wants to know the price in advance.
With Unique Transfers & Tours you book online in a few steps. Pick the airport and your address in our booking form, add the passengers and bags, and choose the vehicle. Our fleet is Mercedes-Benz, and guests describe the cars as clean and modern in the reviews on our homepage. If you travel with young children, tell us when you book by phone or WhatsApp so we can plan the right vehicle.
Tips for a smooth taxi ride
- Check the time. If you will arrive after midnight, expect the €65 night fare.
- Tell the driver your full hotel address, and show it on your phone if the street name is long.
- Outside the inner ring, check that the meter is on when the trip starts.
- Ask for your receipt at the end of the ride.
- Taking the metro or the X95 bus instead? Our guide on how to get from Athens airport to the city center compares them.
- Heading to a ship? See Piraeus port to Athens airport, because the port trip runs on the meter.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Uber at Athens Airport?
Yes. Uber works at Athens airport with licensed local taxi drivers. The pick-up point is opposite Exit 4 on the arrivals level, and the official flat fares of €50 by day and €65 at night apply to the city center (Athens International Airport). Other trips run on the taximeter.
Is Uber cheaper than taxi Athens?
Not on the airport run. Uber in Athens uses licensed taxis, so trips between the airport and the city center pay the same €50 or €65 flat fare, and other trips follow the taximeter (Athens International Airport). The app helps with payment and tracking, not with the price.
Is it cheaper to book a taxi in advance?
No. The flat fare to the inner ring is the same whether you queue at Exit 3 or book ahead. Booking ahead saves the queue, not money. A car booked with Unique Transfers & Tours shows its fixed price before you pay, for any address, and the driver waits for you at arrivals.
How do I order a taxi in Athens?
At the airport, join the queue at the rank at Exit 3. In the city, find a taxi rank, hail a free taxi in the street or request one through the Uber app, which works with licensed taxi drivers. For a ride at a set time with a set price, book a car through our website.
Is a taxi expensive in Athens?
City fares are regulated. The meter starts at €1.80, then charges €0.90 or €1.25 per kilometre, with a €4 minimum fare (Government Gazette, September 2026). The airport adds €4 on metered trips. The flat fare to the city center is €50 by day and €65 at night.
What does private airport transfer mean?
It is a car booked in advance only for you or your group. The driver waits at arrivals, helps with bags and drives you straight to your address. With Unique Transfers & Tours you choose the vehicle, from a Mercedes-Benz sedan to a van or minibus, and you see the price before you pay.
Are there more than one airport in Athens?
Athens has one international passenger airport, Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos at Spata, east of the city. The taxi flat fares, the metro and the X95, X96, X93 and X97 express buses all serve this airport. Check your booking says ATH, the airport code.
